Review of CD - "Cold
Hard Bitch" - Jet - by Peter Gernert Dott
I know you've had "Cold Hard Bitch" pumped through your speakers every minute of the day for the past several weeks...but I'm here to tell you that the Jet album is really really good. There's something about these guys that enticed me to buy the CD despite the hype...overplayed yeah but I like the songs to begin with so what the hell...turns out the whole CD is quite enjoyable...good influences here from AC/DC to the Rolling Stones to the Beatles to the Pretenders...actually, the bass playing reminds me very much of the Pretender's Pete Farndon, one of the coolest bassists of all time! There are a number of slower tunes that are simple but effective with nice harmonies (immediately singable; which is great only when driving alone). This album recalls days of sitting in the Dott house (late 70's) and listening to something start to finish. 45 minutes. Solid. Nevermind the heavy rotation, this is one nicely done album. I caught these guys on SNL a few months back (remember 'Are you gonna be my girl'???). Rock and roll...very garage-band like...great energy...grungy-looking (I think Thom would look like this if he didn't wash his hair or shave for a few weeks).
Anyway, there you have it...a welcome blast from corporate MTV world.
